    IMHO, the PAINKILLER record is one of the best metal albums I've ever heard.

    Priest ftw

    For those of you who are not familiar with it, I'd like to present the emerging subgenre of Pirate Metal. Pirate Metal is currently on the line between "schtick for a couple of bands" and "subgenre", much like folk metal was in the nineties.
    Anyways, the **** is wicked awesome:
    AleStorm - Heavy Metal Pirates
    The fool thinks himself immortal,
    If he hold back from battle;
    But old age will grant him no truce,
    Even if spears spare him.

    Armored Saint kicks ass.

    I also went looking for "ninja metal" as a possible competition for pirate metal (Nice find, by the way. I've listened to AleStorm before but I had forgotten about it.)

    All I found was this stupid ****:
    YouTube- ‪The Way of the Intercepting Fist - Ninja metal‬‎
    I'm really not sure what they were going for here. Sounds like shitty Dir en Grey with bad samples and played with no concept of rhythm.
    YouTube- ‪NINJA METAL €ŒƒŒ水‹™ LONG€‬‎
    And I seriously have no idea what the hell I'm looking at here.
    YouTube- ‪Ginger Ninja - Bone Will Break Metal (Official Video)‬‎

    The mediocrity of ninja metal just goes to show the inherent supremacy of pirates over ninjas.
    More awesome pirate metal:
    Under Jolly Roger
    The fool thinks himself immortal,
    If he hold back from battle;
    But old age will grant him no truce,
    Even if spears spare him.

    I'm gonna see alestorm live in september, together with sabaton.
    Right now I'm learning to play "the trooper". Maiden is wicked, but they play ridiculously fast imo.

    Great thing about playing Maiden songs for me was that once they were in your hands so that you could belt it out at regular speed, it doesn't take too much to get it back. It takes me about five minutes to shake off the rust and play Phantom of the Opera again. Man, that's a kickass riff.

    I heard from a buddy of mine that
    YouTube- ‪Slayer - Dead Skin Mask‬‎
    and
    YouTube- ‪Megadeth - Never Walk Alone..A Call To Arms‬‎
    are playing in my area, but I dunno if I'll be able to go or not.

    Which would suck. I wouldn't even care if I was on the lawn. Being in the same state and county as Kerry King AND Tom Araya would be good enough.

    I started playing the guitar only 2 years ago and between training, getting a master degree and a girlfriend, I don't have much time to play so I'm progressing rather slowly. Question: do you learn the solo as well or do you improvise that. I can usually get the general rythm and riffing down but the solo's are way to diificult usually. At least, as far as metal goes. And indeed, Phantom of the Opera has a great riff. I also like the recent maiden albums, especially brave new world. Its not classic maiden, but it still rocks better than a lot of other stuff thats out there. Speaking of rock, check this out;

    YouTube- ‪AIRBOURNE - Runnin' Wild / feat. Lemmy‬‎

    I saw them at Graspop Metal Meeting this year and they tore the place up. if you ever get the chance to go to GMM or W:O:A, don't let the opportunity pass you by. Biggest metal fest(s) in the world.
