Blast from my pre-sambo past! 1997 San Shou

OK...here I am as a much slimmer, greener, and younger fighter. Thanks to Max Chen for digging these videos up! I lost in the finals fighting one of Cung Le's guys for the bronze (in a third round - san shou only goes to a third in the event of a tie). I recall it was a great fight...real close. I officially went 2-2 in the event, but really had only 3 fights as one win was by DQ. The suplex counter was against a Brazilian fighter. I enjoyed the walk down memory lane...hope you all do too.

Steve, I like how you only do martial arts that give you an alliterative nickname. Was that on purpose?

Be careful Steve; sure its fun and games now, Sambo Steve, San Shou Steve, Sumo Steve (better start eating more), but soon it becomes Silat Steve, and then ...systema Steve, and finally Stav Steve (*shudder*). The best alliteration is the worst art; think about that, and turn back from the abyss, before its too late!

Some really nice takedowns and suplex work here. Especially the ones where you ended up throwing the guy off the raised platform (not sure that is the safest setup in the world, but still cool). That scissors sweep was also nice (not sure what the actual name of the technique is). So pardon my ignorance, but once the throw happens it looks like action is restarted on the feet, is that correct?
