So someone I know and a black belt Judoka I also know where on a beach recently, when they came upon a nurse shark which was stranded and wounded in the shallows at a beach. It was thrashing about, unable to get out into the deeper water and digging itself deeper into the shallows. Both were afraid to go near it and there was noone nearby.
So black belt approaches the struggling creature, trepidatious but intending to grab its tail and saying an old sailor's prayer that his father had taught him...and just at that moment, the shark bridges off of its tail.
Sensing a coaching opportunity, both begin yelling encouragement at the shark as if it were attempting a pin escape. The shark started to make progress and soon enough was slowly swimming back out into the sea.
This is a true event. Picture forthcoming.

Did said black belt yell "alakazam!" afterward? I think you are forgetting the part where the black belt drew a five point (I think five?) star on the sand and said a Satanist incantation to revive the shark. Sorry, but this story is WAY to out there.

cool story bro
BJJ might make you a better ground fighter, but Judo will make you a better dancer.

Are you sure the shark wasn't shrimping?

The shark's understanding of the anti-grapple was lacking, IMO.

So, does anyone upon reading/hearing this story actually think that there was some sort of bond between man and shark DUE TO JUDO TRAINING? Or, am I missing something, here?
I could easily not be getting "it" for whatever that means.

The shark didn't swim off because of the black belt's encouragement. Here's what really happened.
