New york will look different when you do it though since you are so long, they can posture up and you can still keep it pretty tight.
I would say beware of this technique I have seen MULTIPLE people throw up...that beard would be a giant barf sponge...damn it I am a sympathetic puker with a VERY good imagination...must not talk about it anymore
You can also set this thing up from the flower sweep, when they properly defend your guard will be pretty high and one arm will already be in perfect placement. -

There is a brown belt at my gym that does the scorpion after the person sits up in guard he sits up with them then does it.
"it's part of eddie bravo's curriculum. it's part of his various sub positions such as chill dog, kung fu grip, karate man, and zombie."
"this is new york"
LOL cheers. All these names are hard to follow is this a USA thing or more of just a 10th Planet thing?. -

The Zombie, New York, Chili dog, etc are a 10th Planet thing.
I actually have not seen this particular move used before with high guard, although I do have a very mean variation of it to finish the triangle choke. It sort of crushes their head like a pimple and tends to give people a massive headaches.
I can see the combination of having your knees squeezed together (thanks to the S grip) and pushing off with your legs creating massive pressure on a persons ribcage and abdominal region. No wonder people puke and get ribs popped. I would imagine that once you see someone setting this up it is a lot easier to avoid.
