    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Howdy, new around these parts!

    What's up Bullshido?

My name's Aaron, nice to be here!

I've been into martial arts for years, did TKD for 2 years and Wushu for about 6 months. Due to exams, etc. recently i've been put out of shape. I'd love to get back into martial arts again! I'll be doing something soon, but for now i'm just looking for clubs.

I live in Cork, Ireland and among all the judo, bjj, etc. clubs around, one is starting to interest me. It's a Karate club. Sensei Paul Allan (7th Degree Black Belt) is teaching, along with a few others. It doesn't seem like a McDojo to me, but could you guys check it out? I'm very interested in the Koryu Uchinadi they base their teaching on.

    Just found this -

Sensei Allan is part of that list, so is another instructor from the club. At least I know he's legit, but is the whole system itself legit? I don't want to be joining the Japanese equivalent of Shaolin-Do..

Koryu Uchinadi is an alright system, the instructors are several prominent figures in the traditional martial arts community, including Patrick McCarthy (a martial arts historian). What they teach is old-school karate: strikes to vital points, ground fighting, trapping, joint twists and locks, chokes, kata bunkai (application) and kata kumite... The system does have a somewhat weird name, but I guess that's why most people are so suspicious. And I think that it's Okinawan, not Japanese.

Thanks Judoist. I'm just happy it's not another club that teaches fake martial arts :)

(there's a kung fu club near me, the teacher claims to have seen a flying horse and his website is full of Ancient Egyptian pictues, etc.)

If they don't spar frequently and hard it's most likely B.S. Welcome to Bullshido.
