    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Confidence problem.

    Hey guys,

I've just started training BJJ and Judo and I'm having a problem. I have stacks of fun in class, and I definitely learn a lot, but instead of gaining confidence I feel a sort of pressure.

I fear that the same thing that happened to me in tennis will happen here. I played for so long but I was always afraid of playing someone I SHOULD beat and losing, that when I did I often would.

Playing competition and in the same respect, ego free rolling and randori is likewise fine.

But I don't want the same thing to happen with something as costly and important to me as MA. I do not want to waste years of my life feeling unconfident and mediocre in something I started off really enjoying.

I also feel that this could transfer into a real situation, where I could freeze up or lose confidence in my training, and not go for the technique for fear of failure. It sounds stupid but it is a problem with me that I want to address early in my training.

Shut up and keep training. You're thinking too much, just enjoy it.

try not to think so much about whether you lose or not, it's just training and you do this to learn

They only way your going to loose in training is to focus too much on "winning". You are going to get "beaten" by someone you think you should beat that is a fact and it is actually a good thing. Getting beaten is a perfect chance to improve your game and step outside your comfort zone.

    Come on, dude.

I would spend all my money in my bank account and stocks to go back to training BJJ again.

Count yourself lucky and every time you tap out, smile and say "Please, sir, may I have another?"

Getting tapped is how you learn. If you develop competent skills your confidence should be boosted alongside said skills. If not...sports psychologist perhaps?

Competition, to me, is just a means to an end, not an end in itself.

Unless you're a pro-fighter/ADCC competitor, in which case, what the hell are you asking us for?
