No, it is illegal to use your judogi skirt or belt to apply shime waza. In Judo, Suso Jime uses the skirt of the jacket, Obi Jime uses the belt. It's unclear to me, but at one time these may have been legal.

It is also illegal to completely encircle a limb (such as a wrist) with the skirt or belt.

Just a thought. If you are the only one teaching grappling in your area, you probably don't have a judo club nearby.

Personally, I'd like to know what the hell he's doing teaching grappling when his only experience is watching Gracie Combatives DVDs.

The vid just shows pretty standard Judo Newaza. Alright they are some pretty flashy examples but.... Some Judo clubs spend half the session on Newaza others hardly do any - depends on the club. I though this Kosen nonsense had been put to sleep - guess not.....
