I dunno about all this 4th Dan business but we do horse stances in our Tai Chi.
I've never been told to treat it as part of a technique, just an exercise for the legs.

Good vid—the effort and energy if not necessarily the quality of bout (though I liked that last move). To the OP, your question is answered thusly: does your friend's class contain people messing around like this (not necessarily every day)? If so, you should be able to get something out of it for your pajama rasslin'.

OK, so a lot of you guys say that it's a good match-up, but do not underestimate the possibilities of using a horse stance in Judo. It's wide, deep and low to ensure stability and rooted-ness, not to mention the enormous power generated from it, as in Sumo (yes, do not underestimate those fat mountains: if they can use the horse stance to win a Sumo bout against an 800-pounder, it's got to be good for something!)

That's what you took out of the thread?

You also need to answer the question you were asked. The teacher name.

I really don't know the guy's name. But he claims that he has 35 yrs. of training behind him, and that he also prepares for competition. From what I understand, he isn't very clear about the whole "4th Dan" business, but I'll check out the school in the next couple of days, and ask him for his full name, credentials, which organisation he's in etc. in person. Stay tuned.

Just for the record, never ever ever feel shy asking for an instructor's credentials. Yes, don't be a dick, yes, be formal and polite, but if the guy starts giving you attitude about questioning his background, turn around and walk away.

Yes, CMA guys in particular love carrying out about their lineage, if they have one worth discussing.
