    Hell yeah! Hell no!
    WhiteShark -

it's a damn shame that in a bid to spread Judo globally, Kano's push into the Olympics and the resulting governing boards has threatened the very essence of the sport.

Between shifting the focus of Judo from self-improvement to victory, from efficiency to weight-class dominance, and from Judo itself to politics, we're in a sad time.

There was recently a transcript posted of an interview with Okano-sensei. In it, he lamented the inability of modern Judo to produce Judoka of the calibre of his generation. The members of bullshido danced around the elephant in the room, discussing the merits and dangers of drop-seoi, and about new rules for scoring in tournament Judo.

I've heard that the old competitions were gatherings of judoka interested in improving the game. While they worked hard to best each other on the mat, they also laughed and learned together. While only the victors left with trophies, participants in general left as better judoka (and not merely more driven to win a trophy at the next match). While i'm not a competitive player, it is not my impression that this is generally how competition works today.

Anyhow, i need to get back to work. I just wanted to express my agreement, vent a bit as well, and perhaps make the vein pulsing in Tripp's forehead bulge a little bigger :p

Can someone change the title of this to "I HATE Judo Politics." Then lock this thread. The stuff I wanted to know was easier to find than I thought I was just looking in the wrong place. Mtripp's credential thread is much more informative than any individual Judo Org site or any other Judo related thread.

Bless you, but I knew what you meant. There is more stuff here. I am kinda hoping when the crap dies down we will gather all of them into a definitive posting.

I will change the title, but you as a moderator should know that closing this thread is not a viable option.

BJJ might make you a better ground fighter, but Judo will make you a better dancer. Join us... or die

People are far too quick to point fingers at the Olympics IMO.

Kyokushin managed to tear itself to pieces with bickering without any help from the Olympic Committee whatsoever.

"I hate "insert martial art" politics."

Hate to break this to you guys, but every single martial art has political problems mostly stemming from personal disputes, bar none.

Wait a minute now, what about BJJ???? They don't have squabbling factions and bullshit drama based almost entirely on personal feuds and ego stroking!! I mean, you never hear about one family/team/lineage badmouthing another, or arbitrarily retracting acknowledgment of previously given black belts based on "disloyalty"...oh wait....
