Judgment call... yes, I believe that Judo is better for "self defense", & I wouldn't call Judo's ground game "fundamental".
However, I think that not bolstering Judo ground with BJJ or Sambo is folly for a well-rounded grappler interested in anything besides the strictest competition Judo.
[okay, that was weird, don't know why I did that...]"Judo is a study of techniques with which you may kill if you wish to kill, injure if you wish to injure, subdue if you wish to subdue, and, when attacked, defend yourself" - Jigoro Kano (1889)

Hi iyopud.
Did you go to KMA? Also, you should check out the Saturday MMA class at the wack wack gym. This guy Elcer, he's going for the URCC (You know. Our local MMA promotion) title in his weight class. He trains with us. I got my ass whooped by him last Saturday. Educational as hell. He's also a great guy who'll do padwork with you until kingdom come and gives great feedback. -

I won't come until payday. Once I do, I'll enroll right away.
Thanks for everything.
I was worried about some BJJ club's attitude. The whole 90% ground and 10% lousy pull to guard stuff but the place I'm eyeing also gives some Judo and Wrestling so I guess they're different.
I'll probably just keep my stance a little lower at the mean time. Besides, I can't block strikes worth ****... -
