Dunno, looks like a basic concept in fencing to me although adapted for short knife so now one can call it whatever one wants. I also think that it is really good. You can rarely find this kind of combined simplicity and speed in kali.

That's the main element that Floro used so well in that video, second was timing and lastly speed. Not to mention a simple direct attack.

I'm just a little weirded out that the Krav instructor couldn't see what was going on there.

    lolwut ?

Krav Maga =/= knowing ass from elbow.

You could even make the case that he is more likely to be gullible and clueless about knife/stick fighting based on his KM Instructor Status.

I don't know... It's just that I've seen that same "try and block this" demo done empty hand a million times, and was thinking it made its way around the Krav as well. I guess not.

To the Gods of War: please deliver me from people who think that attacking from ambush with a knife is in any way indicative of fighting skill, or that a historical tradition of having killed people in this method is indicative of a present-day effective fighting system.

Consider yourself delivered. Go train Tae Kwon Do and point fight we shall call it a combat system.

    Way to miss the point.

If you want to say rapido realismo kali (or FMA in general) is good/effective/useful, do not tout ambushes with a knife as indicative of its prowess, likewise, don't invoke centuries of tradition as an indicator of present-day use, since if that were the case, the Shaolin monks would be kicking ass all over the place.

Im sorry that you misunderstood my post and reacted. I did not say that Rapido Realismo was an effective system. I do not train with them and do not know for sure. My comment was directed more towards FMA in general. Perhaps I should have expounded upon my post in question. FMA are at their core combat systems which has differences from a fighting system. Ambush, psychological warfare, and weaponry are a part of combat.

Centuries of a martial arts use by practitioners who lived and past the art on is an indicator of effectiveness. I also know quite a few Shoalin fighters who are superbly effective and not to be trifled with.
Perhaps you would enlighten me as to what in your opinion shows a system is effective?

For starters, it's effectiveness should be measured in the ability to compete in full contact competitions and routinely hold its own.
