No offense to those who practice kali here. I just think there are too many wasted movements.

Well, I have certainly seen Kali be extremely effective in sparring situations but its real test has been that Filipino fighters have been ambushing and cutting their opponents into very small pieces for hundreds of years. I cannot really speak for Rapido Realismo's fighters as I have not trained with them. Most FMA guys I have met that trained hard were effective and I know more then a few that have quite a few notches on their weapons from kills in combat. I also know some SWAT trainers who (in non praarranged trainings) took out about 10 SWAT guys with a blade before they could get a kill shot.

It is going to depend on the fighter as well as their training methods. I have seen a lot of guys from varying arts train in ineffective ways and perfect ineffective skills (Kali, Jujutsu, Kung Fu, Karate right down the line. I think it is important to keep in mind that systems designed and trained for killing in combat cant fully be tested unless you put them up against a kill or be killed scenario. Most Martial artists do not do death matches anymore, although they do still happen occasionally in the Philippines. If you put a true combat art into a ring with rules you are not going to see that art you are going to witness something highly watered down.

Yep. Some people are just afraid of being hit and therefore hitting. I spoke with Isagani Abon (Rapido Realismo's second guy) about some of these videos and the distance issue. He said that they do not train that way in the Philippines and blamed it on their prior training methods and not enough inundation to their Kali system. I don't know though as i had not worked with them.
