Style: Isshin-ryu Karate--
A common theme I'm seeing on Bullshido
A common theme I'm seeing on Bullshido is the idea that if something doesn't win a MMA match, then it isn't effective on the street. You guys are silly. Here is why Isshin-ryu CAN be effective.
1. A big muscular man punching the **** out of somebody is effective.
2. Isshin-ryu training (with an effective IE: physically torturous and evil instructor) strengthens the body and teaches a solid body-punching technique.
Hence, good Isshin-ryu training can help you become a big muscular person, who knows how to punch the **** out of an opponent.
Oh ya...and just to piss everyone off... Western-boxing/MT/MMA/horizontal fist karate is weak and counter-intuitive. You use your fists in an un-natural, monkey-like way because that is what youve seen on TV and in the movies since you were a child. -

1. "You guise alwayz diss tha kung foo, but MY kung foo is teh r0x0rz - AND i was tot by grandmaster X/Morpheus"
2. "Ha you all so silly, MMA/Boxing/MT no good for teh streetz, only my supa deadly krotty style can help yoo thar"
3. Noobs necro'ing old threads and clogging up YMAS.
4. Some guy saying something like, shut up and do boxing/judo.
There. Now, shut up and do boxing or judo or something.

Odd, I was just speaking to someone about my experiences with Isshinryu last night.
I trained at a VERY harsh place where they actually told people to go to the makiwara and break their knuckles! I was lucky my Judo teachers stepped in and pointed out that "your hands are pliers not hammers..." OK, they actually said something else, but its early and I have no idea how to spell "micromater."
In any event, martial sport trumps martial arts every time. If you are serious about your training, pick one of those."Out of every hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back." -- Hericletus, circa 500 BC -
