Ok what was wrong with what I said. It was a short description of putting your your body behind the punch instead of arm punching.
No this is all me.Again nice theory, but even more misleading than the first paragraph . You are passing on a nice recipe for fail and injury .
Is this how your Hapkido is taught ?
Great I understand that, but we are just talking about developing punching power. I was not thinking to include live training against an opponent. That is not true actually. Just hitting a heavy bag hard does not mean you can punch hard . Punching power is all about the timing joined with technique. You cannot develop the feel for it flailing about on a heavy bag with the internet as a guide .
You need a target who is punching you in the fucking face to truly know if you punch hard effectively .
Just a side comment of training with teacher form other schools even in your own style you can still learn new things. If you are training within your own style it is not cross training . What the hell are you talking about ?
Also I guess I should have mentioned to start out slow to avoid injury, but its not like he never punched a heavy bag.Last edited by svt2026; 6/18/2010 10:39pm at .

You didn't start from the beginning . It should start with the toes, your basic body alignment and foot work .
Why do you think the people who actually know how to punch tell people to wear bag gloves and wraps ?No this is all me.
If you train to hit a bag hard that is ALL you will be able to hit hard. I assume people want to learn how to punch hard to hit PEOPLE hard. It is not the same thing .Great I understand that, but we are just talking about developing punching power. I was not thinking to include live training against an opponent.
Also, he stated in the OP he wants to use it in sparring .
While I would think it would be fucking grade A awesome to start dropping opponents with hooks to the temple and straight rights during TKD sparring I don't think it is allowed in the rule set ... I know it sure the hell isn't encouraged or structured by the rules to head hunt with your hands .
Excellent idea, I didn't get that out of what I read earlier ( oh and mad props and thanks on the spell checking this time around ).Just a side comment of training with teacher form other schools even in your own style you can still learn new things.
Have you read his other posts in other threads ? He is awesome enough already. Also I guess I should have mentioned to start out slow to avoid injury, but its not like he never punched a heavy bag. -
