Very interesting. Run in rounds, shin guards but no gloves. I imagine at that time that was the solution to not being able to grip with gloves on. Ring escapes.

BTW, the Dutch fighter Chris Dolman was a sport sambo world games gold medalist in 1985. Here is the video. Very cool to have that kind of TV coverage in the US at that time. Note american sambist/wrestler Gary Barber and British Sambist Martin Clarke in the video.
