So, can one make more money as a failed MMA fighter than a Judo star?
Also, do people believe judo can be good for MMA because of some real examples, or is just sort of a blind faith? I'm really curious, because whenever people get excited about JUDO IN MMA OMG!!!11 it always turns out lame. -

Correction: This is Ishii's THIRD mixed martial arts fight. His second pro fight was an armbar submission win over a kickboxer named Tafa Misipati:

Don't know why his third match had to be an exhibition, but I'm sure he's thankful that he doesn't have a DQ loss on his pro record. -
Thumbs up!

Ishii will bounce back, it seems like he's pretty serious about crossing over.
Dong Hyun Kim just won his last fight a couple weeks ago, he's a 4th degree from Yong-In University in S. Korea. Akiyama is Japanese of Korean descent, Olympic medalist, I think, and is slated to fight Wandy soon. Manny Gamburyan is tearing it up in the WEC, trains with Karo at Hayastan.
Judo is doing fine in MMA. Not the dominant grappling paradigm, but it's doing well. -

Thanks for the correction Miracleman.
Yeah, I'm not sure what makes so many judoka stick to striking once they get in the cage/ring, but he is hardly the only judoka who has this habit. And as much as I like Dong Hyun Kim, you wouldn't know he has an extensive judo background by looking at most of his fights.
Aside from Kintanon's example and the historical examples of old school judoka taking on all styles ala the Gracies, you do see plenty of judo derived takedowns used in the cage...just not by judoka. Geroges St. Pierre for example has been known to use judo throws. We know it works, and it is AWESOME when it does, but few specialists in the art have stepped up to give judo the potential it has. It is not just in MMA either- judo needs to increase its presence in the general grappling world as well. Thus us judo fans are constantly being hyped up and then being let down while looking for the next Karo. Also, do people believe judo can be good for MMA because of some real examples, or is just sort of a blind faith? I'm really curious, because whenever people get excited about JUDO IN MMA OMG!!!11 it always turns out lame. -

Really? When I watch DHK I notice the abilities that I would think he gained from Judo. Especially the use of his legs up against the cage. But then again what do I know about grappling.
