It seems like a long way to go but I used to tutor kids in college and saw the symptoms of that all the time. I mean, he even put "What is wrong with New York?" in the title when the innocent man was acquitted. So, as a reader I'm still left with the question. What is wrong with New York?
See, that is what makes the article weird. I couldn't decide between the title being an insult toward New York, the guy being charged or the jury letting him go.

The whole thing stinks of a beginner. I mean you said it reminds you of writers you tutored.

Oh noes, kids with alchohol and thc in their system. They were surely hardened street criminals. What schlocky writing for an article. I don't think Scott should be punished, but he's not a hero either.

Did Phill Elmore write that article? Whatever about the actual events (I'd need to see a legitimate source before I comment), the writing style was worse than the Daily Mail.

Rodderick Scott is welcomed to move to Arizona where he would likely get elected as Sheriff of some town.

Nope it was the guy that spent 6 years in jail, I worked with him, for shooting a guy who attacked him. This is AZ and you are forgetting how conservative AZ can be. Less than Utah and Boise but, that isn't saying much. IIRC he got paid eventually but, that time in jail fucked him up.

The guy looks like he could seriously lay the hurt on somebody and it makes me wonder what would have happened if he beat up the kids until the authorities got there or maybe just just shot one of them in the leg.

Truth be told it's sad but what those kids did was just outright wrong and stupid. I'm glad this guy didn't get sentenced, he doesn't deserve jail time.

Hold now I gotta poke around through NY state self defense law...
