One of the things that was pointed out to me (that I thought was interesting) was manipulating the direction of their foot with your feet. Almost literally turning the foot like you're applying a toe hold with your feet.
I feel that, a lot like x-guard, this is a position where you have to constantly unbalance your opponent to make it practical. Any stalling or lapses in the flow will get you caught.
I usually go from various lockdown positions to deep half but rarely hang out there. If you are getting choked it's usually because you're not keeping your head tight and over extending like I mentioned before.
