    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    D. E. Tarver

    Hi all,

No idea if this guy is actually BS or not; in fact, he delivers pretty good translations of some classic Budo texts.

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=ntt_athr...%20E.%20Tarver

However, his biography, as found on the back covers of his books, and displayed on amazon, sounds a bit embellished:

    D. E. Tarver holds black belts ranging from 2nd to 7th degree in seven different styles of Japanese and Filipino martial arts. He has taught martial arts and strategy for twenty years. Since his honorable discharge from the Marines, he has spent time in Japan and the United States.
I read about him the following:

    http://www.aikiweb.com/forums/archiv...hp/t-6535.html

Tarver's a bit, um, controversial in the trad. budo community. There's a fair amount of chatter about him at www.e-budo.com.

    And also:

    http://www.kendo-world.com/forum/sho...238&viewfull=1

    anyone know D E Tarver?

u might remember him from his stupid "i can cut a melon on a blonds stomach with a sword" video clip...

There was also a thread on BS about a man called D. E. Tarver a few years ago:

BLACK BELTS FOR SALE - No BS MMA and Martial Arts

    Is this the same person?

His website now redirects to a small movie company's promotional site...

    Thanks,

    Rafe

I'd checked the e-budo site myself, but their search engine is even more retarded than the one we have here. ;)

    Ba-bump.

Hey, what's up!? This guy is the chief editor of nearly all Japanese folklore/samurai/larp culture books that are out there and his record looks as incredible as the average's bullshidoka's.

If he is legit, okay, but no comments at all?:5eek:

Have you tried searching "tarver" at e-budo? I found enough...

having a go at his comprehension of (old) Japanese

    http://www.e-budo.com/forum/showthre...ghlight=Tarver

    or cutting
    http://www.e-budo.com/forum/showthre...ghlight=Tarver

apparently there was another thread about krotty that doesn't exit anymore, I think it's due to one of their forum crashes.

Thanks. I looked him up at e-budo, but the caption field you got to fill in for the dearch there was completely wonky - with Opera and Firefox.

    Gaaaaaaaaah.

So I got to register there, now?:icon_conf

EDIT: So, I am banned from E-budo for asking some questions on Ralph Severe!

Can you please sum up the threads there for me?

I use firefox as well, including some no-script/addblock devices and despite those it works fine on e-budo. Google chrome is my preferred browser nowadays, no problems either.
I think you will have to register in order to read those threads.

The first one is the longest and as far as I have read (not the whole 17 pages monster btw) evolves around his not so great translating skills (kanji wise) and that he had some students pay for lessons and took off with the money.

    Thanks, man! :5bouncy: Pushups!

So, basically, old stuff; a bullshitter with a possibly criminal past.

That renders the question about his belts marginal.
