    Introduction from a non practitioner

    Good Morning:

I hope this is not too odd for a request as a first post. I practice no martial arts at this time but would like some information which you might have off the top of your heads.

My girlfriend and I spent some time at a Korean festival recently. We got to a demonstration of various martial arts but we were late to the start I did not catch the name of the one style that caught my eye.

While the other demonstrations used high kicking and some throwing, this one was extremely acrobatic, one part where the demonstrator sort of ran up and over his opponent before throwing him down.

I am a gymnastics student and found this interesting but could not get the name of the style. If anyone could help me out, that would be great and thank you for your help.

    Thanks!

Try getting in touch with the people who ran the festival. They should have a list of all the MA schools that participated.

You might also look into Taido or Wushu. Those are respectively a Japanese and Chinese art with acrobatic leanings.

or Capoeira (Brazilian same deal with the acro)

suddenly this has turned into a mental chalenge to pick the art. (Although talking to the organisers is still the most sensible option)

What were they wearing eg. what uniform

My next guess Muay Boran has some of those flying throws.

Thank you for your replies and suggestions. I had zero clue about how many different styles there are until I began following your suggestions.

The weird thing is that the closest match seems to something called vovinam, but it is vietnemese.

I will post the original question in the Korean forum as suggested.

    Thank you again!

This is an edit: I also did try to contact the organizers. The reply I got was what I would call a hard sell response to come and try takekwondo.

This may or may not be the same thing as Viet Vo Dao (Vietnamese Kung Fu). Check that as well.

    P.S. Just for fun

Don't be too caught up thinking that they will have Korean martial arts at a Korean festival. I went to a Thai festival and the martial arts demonstration was a bad hybrid of kickboxing, taekwondo and kung fu, the only link was they attempted a traditional Thai dance.
