Joe Soto displayed a great game plan and maturity, putting the BJJ black belt Diego Saraiva on his back early. Soto stayed safe and away from the complacent black belt's guard, eventually opening up a cut on the forehead of Saraiva for the TKO win.

Ben Askren vs. Ryan Thomas 2 - Never say the first one, but here Thomas kept trying to engage in a wrestling match he was losing in. He should have tried to break away and strike more often as he kept winding up on the bottom in scrambles. Apparently Askren had a BJJ purple belt but both exchanged positions and flopped around closer to a white belt. Sloppy match I decided to watch on fast forward since there was little technical enjoyment for me. Look for the young Olympic wrestler Ben Askren to make waves in MMA as he grows.

Steve Carl vs. Dan Hornbuckle - Loved Dan's calm set up of his submission over strong wrestler Steve Carl. Guy has a sense of humour as well

Cheering for Dan to get the sub in the final round of the welterweight tournament over Askren.

Hornbuckle is a buzzsaw. Askren does a great job of staying on top, but Hornbuckle has shown repeatedly that it's not safe being on top of him.

And standing up with him is mebbe worse. Certainly would be for Askren, who has no perceptible striking skills whatsoever -- even from mount.

In general, Bellator has been a delightful surprise. Perhaps not at the UFC/Pride level, but they put on a pretty good show; it's weekly; the commentators don't make me want to throw things at the TV; it's live, and free (for those who get FSN or certain affiliates).

Ticket prices are very reasonable too.

I certainly wish them continued success.

Whenever I manage to see bellator fights they're always fun to watch.
