Martial Arts Schools in the Arlington VA area

I'm looking for a martial arts school somewhere in the Arlington/Virginia area. What I'm looking for primarily is self defense and fitness. What style it is doesn't matter much, as long as it is a credible school with a good instructor, so if anyone knows anything, please list a few schools.

Also, I prefer striking over grappling, but grappling is fine too.

    Peace

dude, if you can't find a good school in arlington... there are LOTS of choices. not cheap, but nothing is, that far in.

talk to (or search newbietown for posts by) hedgehogey. he teaches around there, i think, and may have suggestions for you.

If you want to learn how to strike/improve your striking ability I'd go to a boxing gym.

I've considered that, but wouldn't knowing how to use your elbows, knees and feet be better than just your fists?

There are a ton of good martial arts schools in northern VA depending on your ability to travel and what you are willing to pay. I linked a Karate school because you specifically asked about it but there are FMA, more MMA and BJJ schools than you can shake a stick at, and plenty of TKD, HKD, etc. If you go into DC and check at the various embassies, you can find almost anything. You will find some of the highest concentration of great BJJ schools anywhere here in NoVA. Leo Dalla, Lloyd Irvin, and Pedro Sauer, the Yamasaki group, etc. all have schools in the area. I have not looked specifically but I am sure there are CMA as well considering the high concentration of ethnic Chinese in the region.
