The fact is Overeem has never tested positive but faces more critisism than many who have.

Sean Sherk, Hermes Franca, Stephan Bonnar, Kimo, Ken Shamrock, Vitor Belfort, Tim Sylvia, Josh Barnett, Ricco Rodriguez, Royce Gracie Nate Marquadt and James Toney have all been tested positive.

Is steroid use an epidemic in MMA? Personally i dont think so.
Or are most of the fighters who have tested positive simply the victims of inept athletic commissions, shady nutritional supplements etc..?

As far as I'm aware none of the fighters i know are using anything.

I would wager that the MMA fighters you know are not exactly world-class. When you're fighting at that level for tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, it's fairly understandable that they'd take any tiny advantage they can get, even if it means bending the rules a bit. I'd say it's extremely likely that close to all of them roid. The guys you cited were just the ones stupid enough to get caught.

And Overeem catches flak because it's so obvious.

Franca, Bonnar, Sylvia and Barnett all admitted to it, so it's certainly not a phantom born of faulty testing. From what I hear of Rodriguez it would be more surprising if there was an available drug he hadn't taken.

I once asked someone who is in a position to know these things how wide-spread it really is, and they told me that Halezett does not use PED... (dramatic pause turning into uber-cynical trail off)

Perhaps i'm being slightly naive about the amount of using that does actually go on but I would like to think its no more than any other high profile mainstream sport.

I also think its unfair to presume anyone is without any evidence. (even with a monster like Ubereem)

I train at Londonshoot btw with Marius Zaromskis, Mustapha Al Turk, John Hathaway etc..

What is the availability of PED in the UK?

I think the ultimate solution MMA (or the UFC) is to allow PED, but only if administred by someone from the organization... just like you guys do with Heroin. Juice all you want, but you're getting shot up at the press conference, and on TV in front of your kids.

I used to train in a bodybuilding gym in West London where there was alot of guys on anabolics, which as far as i'm awaire are legal to own in the UK. (just not to distribute)

I think part of the appeal of PED for fighters is that there is the implication that one's atheletic performance is natural. Once you make the juicing public, it removes that aspect, and makes the dude seem kind of pathetic.
