That's a typo he meant:
The hood mentality is crippling disease, that attacks your nervous system. It makes you nervous of the system. Gangsters and hood rats are especially susceptible to this growth stunting mentality. The hood is where I'm from, but it's not what I am. The hood is where I'm from, but it's not what I am. --Keith David--Ice Cube

If someone is getting fucked up and is incapable of defending themselves, then stepping in *may* be the right thing to do. If you simply see a person showing evidence of having lost a fight, give her your card and train her. The ultimate responsibility for her safety is HERS not yours.

This is something I think hard about sometimes. There's only been one situation where I intervened. Granted I had assistance (my buddy who trains with me and my cousin that is a corrections officer) but it still left me wondering.
Nothing justifies battering a woman around. It's one of the most despicable crimes ever. The mere thought of it makes me want to take my katana and lob off the abuser's head. -

I'd like to say that I'd step in, but easier said than done. I was only in one situation like that, where myself and some friends were throwing a ball around at a park. I was too far to see what exactly went on, but my friend across the field saw someone in a group in the lot hit a girl, and all I saw in the distance was him getting in his face. I, and my other friend ran over to back him up, but we were just backing up our friend without knowing the situation.

Are you fucking serious? There is very little that justifies battering *anyone* around. Woman or not.
Would you hit a man that raped a kid? Would you hit a woman who did the same? If you answered differently either of those, you are on thin ice IMO.
Women are not fine china, they are human beings. Not knowing how to fight is not an excuse for asking strangers to risk life an limb to protect you. ANd yes I have stepped in on occasion. Now darkness comes; you don't know if the whales are coming. - Royce Gracie

I was at my friend's apartment complex when we were kids, and there was some domestic violence that spilled into the stairs. A guy was beating his girlfriend. My friend's dad tried to find his police baton (he wasn't a cop, he just found it in the back of his truck one day), but couldn't find it. He stormed out to confront the guy, takes him down, mounts him, and proceeds to do something I don't think I'll ever see again. He's a professional massage therapist, and he proceeds to jab and gouge pressure points, making the guy writhe in pain. The cops show up and see him on top of the other guy, and they mace both of them and arrest them. This shows a point to remember if you're going to intervene in violence- keep in mind that if you end up dominating someone in a fight, now you might be the one battering someone and someone may intervene or call the cops.
