Yeah, I even wonder what % of BJJ schools don't always/usually start from their knees. You have to devote so much mat time before you get decent at takedowns.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's just any random groin cup and only the helmets and fist wraps are regulation items. I'd probably opt for the steel cup and hope my opponent breaks his foot...
Has anyone ever used one of those big bulky boxing no-foul protectors? Could you comfortably take hard shots to the balls with one of those on? You couldn't kick in them of course, but it'd be nice to have something for drills one day.Last edited by maofas; 5/16/2010 11:49pm at .

I reacted to this as well. There's no way in hell that JJJ is an 8 on the ground. Also, how the hell is JJJ, Hapkido and TKD even close to Daido Juku or "mma" in terms of striking? Why is american Kickboxing ranked higher than Kyokushin in terms of striking quality? Why does Sanshou get more credit for its throws and clinch game than SAMBO?
Of course, there are a lot of other stuff that's worth poking at, but these are the ones I flinched the hardest at. -
