Hawai'i High School Judo champs, Moanalua, Punahou

Moanalua took the boy's first place and Punahou (my and Obama's HS) won the girl's championship. I'm glad that Judo has gotten to be a big high school sport in Hawai'i. Hope it takes off on the Mainland.

That's awesome, I'm a Punahou alum myself!! I've been all over the world and I maintain that you can't go anywhere without bumping into Punahou people.

I went to Moanalua as a Freshman (before moving away from Hawaii) and wish they had Judo then.

I'm moving to Oahu in a few months, not sure where my kids will attend HS yet. I'm going to be working on Wheeler/Schofield, but not sure where we'll live. Any comments/suggestions/concerns?

Not quite I can give you a straight shot answer but here's my opinion:

-in general, the Hawaii public school system suffers (even more so than a lot of other states) in terms of underfunding, overcrowded classes and a shortage of teachers.
-With that being said, you're working in Central Oahu so you have several public and private options.
-If you want your children to attend a private school, Punahou, Iolani, Mid Pacific, Maryknoll, Hawaii Baptist Academy, St. Louis (all boys), St. Francis (all girls) are possibilities.
-Some of the better public schools are Roosevelt, Moanalua and Mililani.

I have attended both public and private schools in Hawaii. I admit that I'm biased toward private schools, but its for the reason that they have more money and thus have better resources.

But don't take my word for it. I would start here and then see what you think.

Oh as to where to live, I personally like Manoa. But Pearl City, Aiea are closer to the base.

I would like to get the curriculum guide and any other documentation they used to get the program going in the high school. Please PM me
Judo is only gentle for the guy on top.
