It's as if you accused these parents of being overly invested in the most trivial aspects of their kids' athletic achievements, hoping perhaps to live vicariously through them, or to mitigate the shame of their own past failures.

Actually, I'll encourage the BJJ parents to act out. I want to see them treat the grappling refs the same way as they would a little league ref. Considering that grappling refs are typically high-level players themselves, the outcome would be incredibly amusing.

If you ever see a confrontation on YouTube where a BJJ parent and ref get into it, I'll be the guy who was behind the parent egging him on. Oh, and I'll have popcorn. No, I won't share.

I'm thinking about line-reffing. I'm not a big fan of soccer but I might get some sparring practice with some of the parents who try to start a shoving match. Unless it's a girls soccer team whereas one of the girls will immediately gouge my eyes, push me down, and stomp on my nuts with a cleat.

obnoxious yelling is more of a american general social malfunction, bjj is not the problem, having dozens of americans and brazilians (also known for their enormous egos) in a room will do that for you.

im pretty sure that any american who has ever trained in europe or russia or thailand will agree there's way less ego over there.

My daughter was at a competition this weekend and I was yelling "Jiu-Jitsu!" the whole time. Haters were trying to stare me down or something. She ended up striking out with two runners on base in the last inning anyway.

Yer wrong. The Jits chant is an Brazillian thing, and specific to BJJ. Yes, it fits nicely with American sports culture, but IMO it's more like a football thing than anything specific to MA.

I mean seriously, I think this BJJ mentality is really getting fucking stupid. I went to a USA grappling tournament. They went into this nice speech on how they are trying to get this into the Olympics, and how there hasn't been that great of a turn out, and how it's up to us to keep the dream going and how they're trying to bring wrestling and bjj merger a sport.

There are catch, submission wrestling, and sambo groups that constantly get supplanted because everybody believe that the only thing under the sun that does ground work is BJJ. It's ridiculous.
