So, Halme. An excellent self-promoter, populist, Pro Wrestler, old school MMA participant, hard hitting untechnical boxer and (my personal opinion) annoying ************.
As you may guess I didn't particularly care for Halme. Up until he got too messed up with drugs he was pretty successful. I wasn't really concerned with his passing, but the fact remains that his was the first Finn to fight in the UFC. Lucio Linhares might have counted as the next one since he spends most of his time in Finland these days, I guess. It might be a while still before somebody else steps up. Matteus Lähdesmäki, Anton Kuivanen or Janne Tulirinta (if he ever gets a working visa..), perhaps.
BTW. The critical writer stuff was actually about critiquing how media handled Halme (a druggie fuckup for the last few years) while he was alive and the contrast after he died (a national hero). She called out the media for hypocrisy. Unfortunately the article it wasn't clear enough and most Finns lack media reading skills, so it quickly developed into a clusterfuck.
When did you live here?

I lived on Perustie in Munkkiniemi from 2001-2004 when I worked at Biotekniikan instituutti in Viiki. My daughter is a Finn.
IIRC it looked a lot like this during the week: YouTube- Sleestack Hisses and walks
And this on a Friday night:
YouTube- "Conan the Barbarian" Run To the Hills (Iron Maiden)Last edited by Matt Phillips; 5/09/2010 11:00am at .

Small world, I lived pretty close by 2002-2004.
It's closer to this all week: YouTube- 0.5l leijona raakana huikalla n.11sec
Except on Fridays when we go out after the first part and have fun

I don't know what I miss more: Candy that tastes like a battery, people walking without swinging their arms, or small children playing a variant of freeze-tag call "Who's Afraid of the Black Man".
