Yes. it is the law that states that the longer a thread goes on the more likely a comparison to a certain 1930s-40s German political party will take place. The individual who makes such a comparison is usually said to have lost the debate.

Are you saying I was comparing battlefields to national socialism or are you saying I lost the debate with my comment about battlefields's post? I will assume the latter, in which case I must clarify that my intention with that statement was not to say I was to admit that I was wasting time (as I don't personally see this as a waste of time) and more or less commenting on the irony of telling someone to "shut up and train" while you yourself are posting in a thread you consider a waste of time.

Don't worry, I'm not your boss. Dunkel Ananas is just a common name.

I wasn't worried, merely a little depressed that I was going to have to kill another employer over something said on the internet.

I am relieved my boss isn't you, to say the least. It took me hours to get the blood out of my shirt last time.

Why would you do a thing like that? The amount of paperwork you'd have to do afterword would be enormous. There's also the chance your employer will haunt you. Do you really want to be woken up to the sound of the phantasm that was your boss asking if you filed your TPS report?

Paperwork? Dude, you don't have as much time as I do to waste at work if you have to do paperwork. As for the ridiculous notion of a haunting; I hold dominion over spirits in the physical realm, I freely invite my slain to haunt me, I provided their release, if they neglect the one opportunity I gave them to pass over, their soul is mine.

What their motivations for training were, and I believe this has a lot to do with how they define the martial arts.
    Thanks.

Given the number of philosophers, lawyers, and other logical-argumentative types on Bullshido, I've been surprised by the lack of interest in coming to a consensus definition of "martial arts." It seems left it in the same limbo as pornography (another BS.net obsession) and using the definition of "I know it when I see it."

"Does an art have to be effective in combat to be a martial art?" Personally, I don't think so. But I consider this another layer of analysis about an art. For example, Icelandic Glima is a belt wrestling style. From what little I know about it, Glima seems to meet my definition of martial art. However, I would bet that it is not particularly relevant to or effective in life-and-death combat. I proposed my definition in a thread about SCA fighting, a style that had its defenders as a martial art, and some insightful critics with excellent arguments against it.

Of course, you could play reductio ad absurdum with my definition too. Is Thumb Wrestling a martial art? I don't think so.

Perhaps YMAS isn't the place for a legitimate discussion of this? Which sub-forum would be more appropriate? (I sense I'll be in Sheerdog in no time...)
