I recently discovered that there is an SCA group very close to my residence. I also discovered that I like the idea of bashing people while wearing badass armor.

Unfortunately, it seems the SCA specifically prohibits grappling, rendering my meager Judo skills useless, as well as punching and kicking. Basically, my only option is to hit the other person really hard with a stick.

Anyways, I sent an email to some guy with a fancy title when/where they meet, and if I could wollop people without legal repurcussion. I'm waiting on his response.

Bullies, any tips for armored fighting? Any ideas for epic awesome ass-beating on my first day? How much will I be mocked if I changed my avatar to me wearing platemail, standing over my vanguished foe?

For armored fighting with weapons, use a DEEP, WIDE stance. The reason is twofold: because it will help with stability when fighting on uneven ground, and also to use the tremendous power generated from hip movement in a low stance, such as the position used in sumo and judo (jigotai).
And if you put up that avatar, you're fair game.

They are, by and large, but note that ARMA (the Association for Renaissance Martial Arts) is just one, increasingly marginalized organization within the broader category of HEMA (historical European martial arts).

Why the marginalization? I have a feeling though that there might be an explination here beyond the scope of this thread.

Dude, I don't mean to burst your bubble but you have to be a Lv. 2 Squire first before you can be a Knight.

EDIT: Uh... for tips I guess... breathe through the nose?
I mean I think it's basic but I see a lot of people forgetting this.
I recently started doing it and I found out I gas out way slower.

Remember to taunt your enemies. Also having squire to bang coconuts to simulate riding sounds is must.
