Correct on both counts. Odd that Lynn Thompson overlooked his opportunity to put out a "Shovel Fighting" dvd.

I doubt that it will be too long before Cap'n Chris adds Deadly! Special! Forces! Shovel! Fighting! Secrets! to his repertoire.

Hey, does anyone know about a set of forms in one of the CMAs that basically correspond to 'how do hit guy with bar stool'? I recall someone mentioning it somewhere a while ago (maybe here, maybe not)...

A few CMAs teach a bench form. May or may not be adaptable to bar stools, ottomans, and patio furniture.

And an opportunity to charge $100 for it.

Russian shovel-wise, it was a pretty common tool for sappers, and I've seen some Systema seminars on DVD play with it. Surprisingly, Wiki didn't pick up on that. Don't think there was any specific training for it, other than jab the **** out of your opponent with it... then again, I'm not too familiar. Will have to ask my uncle for more details.

Might be a good selling point for RSBD-like training. Kill people with shovels. Has a nice ring to it.

Bench-wise, I think the Shaolin used a small fold-up bench as a weapon, but I can't be certain if it was indeed Shaolin, or a school that came later claiming Shaolin roots. If it were Shaolin, using a bench would make sense, since they kept weapons out of the temple and were restricted in what they used for training. I'm guessing their techniques would be difficult to apply to a large, bulky bar stool.

Then again, I could be wrong on all counts.

Crap, China has better shovel technology than we do. We need to make a shovel that makes theirs obsolete. I suggest a shovel witha a grenade launcer attached to it.

I am not the only one who thought of the Shoveler from Mystery Men, am I?

The bench that is used in Southern kung fu looks like this:

I've never seen a folding version. The legs are shorter than a barsool, and the part you sit on is longer, so it can be held by the seat at the ends and swing the leg sides.

My mistake, perhaps. I was under the impression that the legs were supposed to be collapsible, adding an element of clamping techniques, but then again, quite likely a misconception on my part. Unfortunately, I can't find the source amid my book pile :(
