    Shovel Kata

I enjoy digging just as much as the next guy. Hell, when I get home from a long day at work, I can't wait to grab a beer and my shovel and move some dirt.

But now, I can't wait to dig, climb, grapple, shield, chop, cut, and so much more.

I just want to sit back in my car, enjoy the surroundings, and fend off a pole-wielding miscreant with my shovel.

There's a mildly entertaining video floating around, which might have been discussed here already, of a skinny little Russian guy in cammies spazzing out with a shovel. I think it was, or at least purported to be, some kind of Spetznatz/systema thing. Now this. Silly, silly commies.

Completely awesome. There is no product that would not benefit greatly from a 10 minute commercial set to awesome communist propaganda Indiana Jones music.

    BRB, moving to china.

Actually the Russian Special Op's people use a shovel like that one, and Cold Steel sells a VERY good version you can own yourself.....

The Soviet Army had a reputation for being able to dig trenches in record time. In the battle of Stalingrad, they also gained a reputation for using entrenching tools in close combat. I think there are some Spetnaz videos floating around on Youtube with the entrenching tool.

The PLA or People's Liberation Army, in China, has a similar reputation. When they are not training to fight, they engage in large construction projects - not unlike the Roman Army.

It's a utility shovel, yo. The American Army has them, too.

They're just not made very well, no matter what country they're from, in my opinion.

EDIT: I thought this was going to be an argument about Shaolin spades, by the way.

Yeah, I thought Americans used a similar shovel. They called it the "E-Tool" on Deadliest Warrior, and I guess there was one guy who supposedly took down 30 guys with his. At least, that's what the Green Beret guy said on the Aftermath show.
