    leg grabs in Judo

why.... if Jigoro Kano saw fit to develop the kata guruma as an attack then why is it now a banned attack in Judo? I can understand that the powers that be want Judo to look different to wrestling and BJJ but this is a step to far, I don't want to see rugby/football tackles in Judo but I see nothing wrong with a single leg grab followed up with an ouchi gari. For my money the IJF are tinkering with a good system just for the sake of making change, are there any moves on the horizon to bring moves like the kata guruma back.

Kata Guruma isn't banned. You just can't use it as an attack, but well as a counterattack after you stop your opponents initial attack.

    - To break the dominance of Russian, European and American Judoka who have a background in Wrestling/SAMBO.

    - To look different from Wrestling, because the IOC was putting pressure on IJF.

good answers, but now I find myself faking with attacks just to initiate a defence so I can grab their leg.... how has that advanced anything?
Who is this rule change supposed to benefit, the noobs or the international medal hopefulls?

Huh? Russian and European Players do well I will give you that but.

    a) dominate is a bit of a strong word for it.

    and

    b) I'm not sure American belongs on the list unless tou include the Cuban womens team...
