No, but I think it helps.

I'm contemplating the suggestion that mustaches should be required. Since there are no records of "belt ranks" in Bartitsu, I am proposing "Mustache Ranks." You would dye your mustache the appropriate color of your rank. That way the instructor could know immediately your approximate skill level. And in the true Western Tradition, we'd know it by looking at your FACE, not your hoo-haas.

Women would be issued false mustaches and a bottle of spirit gum.

    Peace favor your sword,
    Kirk

I would rather rank be determined by how spectacular the moustache is.

    shodan - one curl
    nidan - two curls
sandan - stretches 4 inches away from face

    so on and so forth

So this guy would be a Grandmaster ... (it's actually a picture of Herman Ten Kate, a Dutch anthropologist who trained at the same dojo in Japan as E.W. Barton-Wright).

undoubtedly, and here the man himself IS burton wright

THe upward curl of his moustache is in fact indicative of his rank which is so high that the chi produced in his body during his intense training escapes to the air via moustache.

Are there any Bartitsu groups in California? I'd love to get into this.

This group is active in San Francisco. If you're into it, join the Bartitsu Forum email list - http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/Bartitsu_Forum/ . Virtually the entire Bartitsu community hangs out there.
