    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    New dude here.

Hey guys, I'm new and the site told me to introduce myself here.

My martial arts experience is this :

Yellow belt in Shotokan Karate, about 5 - 6 months of experience.

One month of experience in Taekwondo and it's currently what I plan to focus on.

    Peace.

Oh, and I also have a few questions about TKD and martial arts in general. I'm mainly taking Taekwondo to keep in shape, and to strengthen my legs, and also for self defense, even though I hear people saying that it's not effective for self defense, why is that? What's not effective about a swift front kick to the face?

Nah, there's no elbows, knees or punches to the face when sparring, but it is full contact and knockouts are allowed.

If you're not having to deal with an opponent holding you and possibly tripping/throwing you in your regular sparring, how are you expected to utilize all your tools during a self-defense situation?

What I'm trying to say is trying to get some grappling in your life (ie. Judo) to enhance your confidence in situations, since you already do some full contact striking.

Hrm yeah, Judo's pretty cool, but I don't really have time for both TKD and Judo, I will consider it though.
