Got to agree with The Russ. I think Maia really showed Silva's weakness if anything. Silva is an excellent counter fighter, but I'm starting to believe he lacks a real offensive shot. I've watched all of his fights and he does the same thing. Don't get me wrong, he's good really really really really really good, but he always does the same thing. He gets your timing down, then he darts in and out, peppering you and hurting you, frustrating you. pissing you off and making you swing back, which he then takes advantage of and cuts you the **** off. But Maia didn't do that, he stayed tight, took his lumps like a man, and really tried to engage and get a hold of Silva. Now, he failed miserably, but I believe the fact that Maia wasn't getting pissed or swinging back wildly kept Silva from being able to finish Maia in the first 3 rounds. Now, about midway through the 3rd Maia is starting to take a few small chances and he actually touches Silva. I don't know how much power was behind it because Silva is a master at just getting out of the way, but it did touch his jaw, you could see it on Silva's face. I don't think it had a lot of power, but the fact that it touched Silva kind of surprised him. I don't think he's used to getting touched at all anymore. At that point, I think he's tired and starting to think, "****, if I get caught or go down and get submitted after all that showboating I'm superfucked!." That's when he quit fucking fighting, he's to good for Maia to actually chase down and get, and it's so hard to fight anybody when they're running. That ************ took his points and went home, started playing the sport more than the fight.

    **** Silva.

Major props to Maia though. At one point he said **** it and went after Silva, even swinging from his knees. Hmm, wonder why Silva didn't drop the hammer then?

Keep in mind that in order to actually be a superior ground fighter you actually have to be capable of taking the fight to the ground. Otherwise you have to hope your opponent will lay down for you or perhaps be willing to start the fight with the two of you on your knees.

Wat...why do people keep mentioning this...the idea he was fighting a ground specialist? Silva did nothing the final two rounds, Maia was trying to engage...striking off his fackin knees no less! Silva danced around cursed DM trying to get him to engage for the first three rounds then the final two he did almost nothing...I think 12 to 15 half assed strikes each round. Maia earned my respect by going all out, who's the last person you saw firing at Silva from their knees with Anderson hovering above them with the potential to take their head off? That takes balls my fren!

Machidaitis, imho. Using his "elusiveness" and counter striking so much it gets to the point its begining to make it boring for the people watching the fight unless Anderson's fighting a guy who will recklessly engage him.

I think AS is so arrogant that he refuses to change his style up just because the "fans" dislike how entertaining his fights are...what do you guys think? I think that's the real reason why his fights have been off lately.

I really think AS is like "who the **** do the fans think they are questioning my gameplan or acting as if I should change anything about how I perform in the cage for them....lol...muwhahahaha fffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!"

lol...o.k so maybe that's not word for word what he's thinking maybe I exaggerated..but really man I think he could care less what we want or if we're entertained...and theres a certain part of me who agrees with that...that's another discussing for another thread though.

The difference is that Machida seems to be always looking for a way in, making those leaping in attacks to pull people into playing his game, and generally is actively engaging in the fight. AS has just stood there goofing off for the better part of his past couple of fights.

I want to see Silva against someone with good striking next time, Im tired of seeing him goof around with grapplers. Its starting to remind of Chuck during his prime.

I would like to see Silva in a competitive fight, against any opponent, but this is what the UFC has to offer right now. I don't really see any suitable opponent in the other orgs either unfortunately. I can't think of anyone in the MW division that could stand and strike with AS, so I think we'll have to hope for a good wrestler to take him down and do better on the ground than Hendo. I guess we have to hope Sonnen really brings his A-game.

    No, Vitor Belfort or Shogun.

Yes he would beat them both but at least they would make it a bit competitive. He wouldnt outmatch them so heavily that he could get away with dropping his hands and playing air guitar when standing in front of those guys.

Silva vs Maia was like watching Croc vs Lion. What would happen when if a Croc took on a Lion? Nothing - the Croc would stay in the water waiting for the lion and the Lion would stay out of the water waiting for the Croc to walk on land.

Maia wasn't going to play Silva's striking game any more than Silva would jump in Maia's guard.

I'm still very confused about whether Silva is going to fight GSP or not. Before and during the fight they made it sound like it was a for sure thing, but then Dana said it was less likely to happen afterward because he was mad at Silva, etc. So what's actually going to happen? I've been waiting for this fight to happen for years.
