Is there anything I can do to prepare for this? Other than just don't get hit there...
I had my first Muay Thai smoker this weekend and I was dropped in the first 15 seconds. I delivered 2 leg kicks and spun my oppenent around. I was goin for the third, and he spun around and hit me in the lower right ribcage. Didn't hurt at first, but after a few seconds it dropped me. It's more humiliating than anything cause I went down from his first kick. It pretty much took all the fight outta me.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Tuck your elbow into your body slightly roll with kick, then make sure you don't get punched in the face afterwards.
Did your school not tell you any specific way of blocking kicks like that?
Are you sure you're training in Muay Thai? Just need to make sure.

Yeah, actually he hit me while I was throwing the third leg kick, so I wasn't prepared for it. I actually didn't even see it. My ribs were exposed since my right arm was swinging back to counter the the force of my right leg.
It is Muay thai, I train at Fairtex.
I'm wondering if my core strength is just poor or if there is nothing I can do if someone gets a lucky shot there. I suppose if I didn't see it, I wasn't tightening for the impact.
I guess the main question is; Am I just a wuss or is it bad luck. And if I'm a wuss, is there anything I can do about it...need more crunches/core strength etc...
I have no experience in full contact fighting before this, so I'm hoping someone who has experience with this can tell me.

Good shot on his part.
Work on not dropping your arm too much when you kick.
And extra core strength never hurt anyone.
How's training at Fairtex?

It's great! I can't get enough of it. If I go any more hours a week my wife will divorce me.

This is a total don't get hit there situation. Without a ton of practice taking hits a liver shot is going to drop you then it will still drop you 7/10 times.

A good shot on his part. Liver shots are the worst...they suck it out of you. Work intensely to keep that right arm in a bit when you kick. For a guy who can time people, it's an invite to a counter strike to something delicate. Work to keep that arm in...and I wouldn't throw more than two like shots in a row, to avoid the counter. It's not worth the trade (as you know now). RESPECT for doing the damn thing.

For good liver shots look for a Mickey Ward
at 42 secs and 1:43 jsut a god vid to look at from a heart standpoint.
Not good for defense though

Only punch that ever dropped me was a shot to the liver by a man not even in my weight class. they could have counted to ten thousand.
