Personally, it's better for a Combat Sport to stay away from the Olympics, so no Karate, SAMBO or MMA lobbying for me to get them in the Games.
The Olympic Games are a great promotion tool, but the sacrifices that have to be made to make it pleasing for the people that find table tennis a "brutal" sport will in the long run damage the Combat Sport.

Yeah, after being involved in two olympic sports (judo and fencing) I think the guys who complain that BJJ isn't an olympic sport are fucking crazy.

i heard this as well. to me it's the most 'credible' of all the other reasons why the rules changed.
i don't really think the reason behind the new restrictions is to bring back traditional japanese upright judo. IJF will be severely damaged if judo is no longer an olympic sport so they want to do everything in their power to remain an olympic sport. unfortunately for the sport, they went about it the wrong way to distinguish it from the other wrestling disciplines.

IJF's last president, PARK, Yong Sung, was not a judoka, but a very successful businessman, and he was elected to run the IJF like a business that it was. i don't know what's going on with the european dominated IJF anymore though. politics are never pretty...

You can talk and discuss politics, I like talking about politics.
It's just that if you discuss politics, the participants have to see all the sides (not talking about you, Nwp), because than it's a discussion.

Unfortunally, a lot of the Bullies are polorised into pure Democrats and pure Republicans. There's no discussion possible, just to sides SHOUTING at eachother that there side smells good and the other side stinks.

I think that Chris Rock said something in the style of "On prostitution, I'm liberal, on crime I'm conservative".
