    Opening your own school

My dream would be to one day open my own dojang. I've grown to really enjoy teaching martial arts and would love have my own school. Obviously at this point I'm a long way from realizing that dream but do any of you have any advice to offer that could help me achieve that?

I was a little shocked. Sure, he changed sides quickly, but I guess even a dog can realize it has more in common with the wolf than with the shephard.

I give him the names of some BJJ schools in the area, and we go our separate ways.

You say you 'teach' martial arts already.

By teaching are you refering to holding your own classes or offering advice to beginners?

What Alex says. Also, study the local market, who do you want to teach? Where will you find them?

Study local regs regarding what you want to do and the licenses that you will need. Find out what you need in regards to insurance. Research all the related costs, research the vendors too. Are they reliable? Can you afford the costs of utilities?

Research capital sources, loans, grants and stuff like that.

Research your competition. Know who is teaching what in the local area. Get to know how they do business. Some business owners like to play nice, others not so much.

Now, if you still want to do it, write a business plan (make sure you have an exit strategy), a marketing plan and then plunge in.

    Good luck.
