'Home Invasion' drills - good idea or paranoia?

Do you and those who live with you ever think about what you'd do during a home invasion at night?

Growing up as a child I recall regular fire drills that my dad conducted religiously. Nowadays, I think I fear people more than fires.

What would your response be if you heard your front door broken down and the possibility of armed intruders? Am I being paranoid in that most of the home invasions reported seem to affect defenceless elderly or disabled people living on their own.

P.s. - I'm not involved with drugs or gangs :icescream

If so ...

Look at it this way ... how many people in your area have had their homes invaded ? How many people are in the area ?

Keep a house hold weapon in every corner of your house, golf club, baseball bat, kitchen cutlery works.

Put two holes in them with your pistol. Put said house hold weapon in their hand.

BFM - I live in the suburbs. I know of one politically- driven home invasion nearby and have read about a smattering of cases involving the elderly/disabled in surrounding areas. Of course this leads one to believe that the attckers target people for specific reasons, however, this doesn't mean I want to be blasé about it.

What if you have children? In the panic of such an event would you want to be arguing with your spouse as to what to do (who escapes, who stays, who calls for help, plan of action, teach your kids emergency procedures)?

Or maybe I've watched too many episodes of Alias and Desperate Housewives.

I live in a good neighborhood with mostly retired folks and other young families for neighbors. This is my first line of defense.

Additionally, I'm armed and familiar with all strategic fields of fire in and around my house.

If it seems likely to you then yes by all means explore your options . Run drills do what ever it takes to make you feel comfy .

You could even do the Airsoft ambush and pretend house guest are invaders . Get the entire house in on it ... except the invaders of course .

A well planned drill is always good, whether fire, invasion or zombie.

Knowing is half the battle. My invasion drill involves lights (or in the day, fire extinguisher to generate cover), a baseball bat and lots of running.
