    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Cree influenced MA?

I was on Wiki, reading about different martial arts (I was bored, had nothing to do), and I stumbled upon Oki Chi Taw (a Native American MA), I was wondering if you guys could help me find out if it was legit.

    Site for reference:
    http://www.nativemartialarts.com/index.cfm?

I'm just wondering if its legit or not.

    Thanks!

Comes up occasionally. Seems to be some doubt by many posters.

I read the posts, but they all seem to say George Lepine is a legit instructor of the style he created. Thanks though! :)

I'm a little curious as to wether anyone ever checked the MA background he claimed. It seems to be the case that he is not claiming Oki Chi Taw to be an authentic art but is the past he claims for himself legit?

Which isn't the same thing as an "authentic american indian martial art."

More of a martial art inspired by american indian culture.

It's as authentic as any other modern synthesis art.

    Nothing wrong with that.

Ah, I see what you mean. Its not so much as an Amerindian MA, but one influenced by the culture. Is that more correct?

Yes, I think that would be an accurate summary.

General note that the Western Martial Arts Forum is specifically intended for the discussion of MAs of European origin. I know that it seems arbitrary and that we can argue "Western Hemisphere", etc., but WMA forums on other boards have frequently become miscellaneous files when people have assumed that "Western" = "everything not Asian" and we're trying to avoid that here.

By the same token, IMO Native American, Polynesian and similar styles are very interesting in themselves and I wish that Bullshido did have a forum where they could be seriously discussed.

To be fair there is a bit of grey area there. For example if your talking about folk wrestling styles or boxing those are generally considered WMA and while many have an origin in Europe many traveled and evolved in the Americas. This instance however doesn't fall under that category. Now if it were a claimed authentic Native American MA wouldn't it be considered a WMA?
