Well the person who publically rebuked me for criticising the Kiai Golf website on Aikiweb was a senior member of my Aikido dojo. I really did not feel comfortable returning to class after the exchange. At the time I was considering stopping Aikido and this definately pushed me over the edge.

Oh yeah, I love the "They are higher ranked than you, so are above your criticisms" approach. It sure carries a ton of weight with me. If that guy was representative of most of the folks at your school, it was probably a good thing for you to leave. Hopefully, at some point if you decide to give aikido another try, you'll be able to find a dojo that suits you better.

I really like the instructor, he is really good, but he reads Aikiweb and posts there and said nothing about the exchange. I thus assumed that he was in agreement with the other senior member.

    Wow Mike.... that's pretty terrible.

Another reason I hate the Confuscian (or however you want to spell it) system. A ssytem that I feel seriously hinders the progress of students and hurts the student/teacher relationship.

Hmm . . . now that there's some distance to the event, if you're interested in still communicating with him it might be worth giving it a shot to send an email, just to say hi or even try and get his side of what went down. Then hopefully you'll know for sure.

Is it true that Aikido only focuses on throws and takedowns because by the look of those videos Aikido would not be an art that would defend yourself in a street situation and I mean about striking and not doing those throws.

:D Lol...My Point is that I don't think Aikido would be a good self denfense for a street fight.
