why dont we see more pakistani wrestlers in the olympics and more?
YouTube- Champion speaks out against treatment of wrestlers in Pakistan.wmv
Here is the description.
Mixed Martial Arts Pakistan listens in as a former Pakistani wrestling Champion details how the government has abandoned the traditional Martial Art of Pakistan and neglected to take care of the many champions that have competed on behalf of the nation to later find themselves poor and forgotten. Mixed Martial Arts Pakistan will continue to document and follow what goes on in the nations wrestling pits and will continue to try and integrate the traditional wrestling scene of Pakistan with the emerging new sport of MMA. The wrestlers themselves, after watching video of MMA agreed that this is to be the premiere sport in the world and that their skills as wrestlers will prove beneficial to the country's MMA athletes.

Held first amateur MMA in pakistan, basically trying to prove to pakistans martial arts community that they really are stuck in the past(The results looked like the first few UFCs, but with smaller skinnier people, check the links on the youtube video). Despite the fact Pakistan has some good pressure tested wrestling inherent to the nation.
It would have been a good idea to put subs on this video that are actually readable.
same problem, the other videos are fun.

That the gist of it is that i understood is a lack of government support and the media fearing people would think wrestling is t3h gh3y and boring so it isn't promoted by pakistani media.
It is STILL popular, in lahore **** loads of people come out to watch wrestling, lots of people do it. My grand father was a palewan. My dad tells me he worked with indian clubells, labor as training, and what not. Along with lots of rolling and technique practice.
Thing is though, who will send them overseas?

Anyone else love the flying kick attempts get stuffed? Not all pakistanis are ehsan Shafiq.
My dad did some translation for me, basically the guy also discussed corruption as well, disappearing funds that were meant for wrestling by politicians.
Sadly, wrestling is often overlooked in lieu of more popular sports, even though it's one of the real classics. Around here, for instance, there's a really good wrestling school that I didn't even know exsisted that compete on a national basis, but that's not covered in the media at all. Our embarrasingly terrible soccer team, however, they're in the papers every day.
It's just not popular enough with the masses. Of course, government officials stealing funding meant for wrestling might be a problem unique to pakistan, I guess!
