    1) expect to get hurt if they're doing it properly (training alive)
    2) the one near me does alot of kicking to the crotch, knife sparring, stress testing and bare knuckle kyokushin-style sparring (with crotch shots)
    3) it is painful and makes you paranoid but if they are doing it properly you will learn to hurt people quickly

    Pretty much what Mickey said.

If you get a good teacher it'll be a great experience. Just really don't try and be a know it all, don't try and tell them what you would do in a certain situation when they're going through the defence for that specific situation. They don't care.

May I ask what Krav Maga place your going to?

Edit: I just realised it is Tuesday, how'd it go?

I have yet to find a cup or groin protector good enough make me want to spar with groin strikes.

shock doctor man.. seriously that is the only cup I've ever had that has taken more than about three shin kicks and remained intact.

my last cheapo cup broke in half when some dick flying kneed my dick in my guard

Surely you're mistaken. Sportfighters never get hit in the groin, and when they do, they die of dehydration from all the crying.

Not to thread-jack, but do any of you have an opinion on the big Krav Maga center in West Los Angeles? I know there are some issues with Krav becoming a hot commodity for mcdojos everywhere, coupled with some questionable teacher qualifications, but I'd assume the LA flagship school would have legit instructors, no?

I took an introductory class there years ago and, while it seemed ok (how much can you glean from one class), I thought it was a bit overcrowded and disorganized, with a lot of people flailing about without much instruction/guidance.

I'm torn between a no-frills muay thai/bjj gym and the krav center. I'm not looking to compete or anything, but want to do something that definitely trains alive. Input welcome....

I'd train there if I lived nearby and it was priced reasonably. Then again I'm just some guy on the Internet.
