It's also a big reason why I like doing Harai Goshi so much - now if it only worked when I tried pulling it off in randori.

Make sure you are sweeping BELOW the knee.

Yes it worked, but the throw in the video is poor form....

Also, work very hard on Uki Goshi. Really get the ability to slam your hip in there. Now you have O uchi/Ko Uchi, Harai Goshi and Uchi Mata..

The real Judo concept is to attack; if they can't defend, you throw them with your attack. When they defend the attack you have your off balance to throw them with your follow up.

The book "Attacking Judo" is a must have.
"Out of every hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back." -- Hericletus, circa 500 BC

Seems as good a place as any to remove the lurking shield...

    Lindland and Maynard KOing himself.
Mark Kerr is also in the 'self-KO with takedown attempt' hall of fame, in one of his later PRIDE fights.

Another I can't remember but it's not a throw. I think it was a brazilian BJJer being takedown and with very poor ukemi he busted his joint and tapped out. It was Pride fight.
That was Mark Coleman beating Shogun Rua.

Also Frank Shamrock breaking Igor Zinoviev's collarbone, and Josh Burkman putting Sammy Morgan out with a trip on the Ultimate Fighter finale.

By the way I think the point of a good Judo throw in MMA isn't to finish (although that's nice if it happens) but that Judo throws tend to land you in side control more so than lets say double leg take downs.

    THIS!

Was just reading Dave Camarillo's bragging yesterday, but his philosophy is sound - Judo throws can put you in much better positions when the fight goes to the ground/mat. Combine that with wrestling or jits for ground control and you've got a sound approach.
It's used pretty effectively by Koscheck, Swick, Fitch, Velasquez...all AKA guys.
