Advice about what, your dogi? We usually recommend a natural indigo-dyed single layer keikogi and tetron (poly blend) hakama to our beginners. You won't be able to tell any difference in shinai right now, so just get a cheap one. Adult men use size 39, women 38. High school age or younger get your sensei's recommendation.

You should consult with your sensei about which to buy - they may have a recommended shop or a dojo group buy or whatever.

Just realized I was OT answering the questions in this thread... Thanks for the offer but if I ever get motivated enough I'll probably just update the JSA FAQ which I haven't touched since 2001.

Since this is the Kendo Thread, here is a Kendo Documentrary. Also The guy on the Second part is amazing, his accomplishment leaves no excuses for others. The basics of Kendo are shown, as well as the spiritual and philosophical aspects of it.
