nice wooden mace, what is it called, a "trench club"?
i like the hurleigh (hurling shtick), but is quite light weight (ash) and prone to snap if hit off against any thing too hard. i also favour a one handed cudgel. now the sheleiliegh is black thorn, very hard and pre dates the hurleigh. if your looking for a hurleigh let me know. i am sure i could get one to you, or a nice piece of irish black thorn?

my current whacking shtick (for intruders, naughty goats and the like) is a sawn off pick handle, 23" long with a rounded off end. hickory, very tough

Your argument is cogent. I discount your point about carrying a bludgeon openly versus a katana in a true apocalypse scenario. I think the police will have other things to do, and probably understand if you're caught openly carrying a katana during zombiggeddon.
my point for legitimate carraige of swords is more to do with pre zombie preparedness (ex boy scout), but your point is well recieved

a hatchet/tomahawk seems like the best of both worlds, a bit of blunt force, a bit of penetration

My wife is a zombiephile. I tend to encourage it too. I plan on making a zombie apocalypse themed bday party for her this year. Should be pretty fun.

The CDC stuff is actually true to a point. The head of the CDC is a huge zombie movie fan. He actually used the movies to help devise plans in the event of a disaster. Pretty neat when you think about it. I mean what did you do at work today? CDC employee: Well I watched Resident Evil and came up with a plan for controlling diseased dogs,

Very nice. I'll see you that and raise you the Native American Rifle Stock Club:

Thank you for the offer. I already have a Hurleigh. Yes, it is a little light for my suggested use, but I still wanted to plug it -- plus, I'd been looking for a place to post that picture of O'Bama.

Actually, I'll be in Ireland (,the Republic of) the second week of July, and I intend to look for a blackthorn walking stick. Something more like this:

    Rather than this:

I've got to take a picture of the weapon rack I put together. Two spears, five walking sticks, four canes, two sets of escrima sticks (rattan and kamagong), one shilelagh, and two nunchaku.

Irish hitty sticks good - Maori better. Greenstone/Jade or heart Rimu - think the core of slow growing hardwood.

When it happens I'll invite the whanau round for some skull splitting japes. Then we'll sit down and have a nice feed.
