    Footwork Drills

Footwork drills. So I have possibly a couple fights lined up, and y'all know me, no matter what it is, I'm coming to bang.

What I need is good footwork drills to practice. Good ones that I can practice on my own with minimal assistance would be great. But those with a partner are ok too, I guess. I need to be as explosive as possible, so I can move in, bang for a bit, and move out with absorbing much damage. because that is my way of the ninja.

I don't need to be as elusive as Machida, but I do need to be getting in and out. So, any drills that can help me develop this?

Rope drills worked for me. Is that what you're looking for?

YouTube- Boxing Lessons for Beginners : Boxing rope drill
YouTube- slip rope at Evanston Boxing Club

There's also box drills, ladders, and good old running up hills.

A good simple one is to move around the mat with another person as if you are sparring, and dont throw strikes. take turns being the one going in and out, then have one person go in, then out, like after a combo.

You should have footwork like this in no time:

When you're on the heavy bag (pads are better, more interactive) make sure every time you come in to strike that you exit on another angle. never go straight backwards.

..if you're on the pads tell you partner to hit you after every combo if he can.

What rules are you fighting under? Boxing?

I can't help with the footwork. When you need assistance developing shittalk before the fight go ahead and send me a PM.

Dosen't work unless I have a BJ Penn account or whatever.

Dog bros. have some good empty hand apps for MMA. If you can get a copy of "Kali Tudo" on DVD they explain the trangular footwork matrix and how it crosses over to MMA.

Here's a clip that shows very little, couldn't find a better one. Skip to around a min. in to get to the technique.
