This type of thing totally creeps me out, and is akin to worrying reports during the W. era that Evangelicals were actively proselytizing in military academies and on base - a kind of C21st version of the "muscular Christianity" of the C19th that was one of the many ideological foundations underpinning British imperialism.

But if and when I can manage to momentarily check my liberal aversion to fundamentalism of any stripe, I suppose I can see that it's not so different from church groups in predominantly minority neighborhoods running boxing programs to keep kids off the street.

    Overall, however, yuck.

Gross. Once again, religion just kind of makes everything worse.
I'd really like to see someone catch one of these evangelical fighters in a crucifix and shout "Where is your god now!?"
    That would make me smile.

“Win or lose, we represent Jesus,” How, exactly? By beating or choking another man unconscious?

I have no problem with any church making fight teams but using MMA as a metaphor for Jesus' struggle is just crass. They're trying to excuse themselves for wanting to punch guys in the face.

I think it's more that they're wanting to sell their product to as many people as possible by any means they can think of.

I liked the last paragraph about the guy who lost, and thus decided to go out and drink and party instead of going back to church.

It’s impossible for me not to be reminded of this quote. Anyone recognise it?
