if you are lucky you will end up with a coach who loves newaza and will allow leglocks, neckcranks and all the other good stuff..... if you are unlucky it will be mostly competition based standup.....

DrunkenJ, does your coach allow lecklocks and neck cranks and whatnot? You've mentioned practicing no gi, but was that at judo?

In Judo there is really no guard. You kind of move sideways to the guy like in wrestling to apply a move (on the ground that is).

Judo does have a guard, Dojime.

It also has open and half open variations the only problem is the technique isn't allowed in randori or competition because of the squeezing possible damage to internal organs. That is if the guard is used closed and squeezing. If it's not squeezed then you can use it. Referees have to decide in such cases whether the man between the legs is being held or squeezed.

of course, jenfucius doesn't have to worry about a ground game since he's pretty much eye level with it

Where do you fucking people get this ****.
There are never going to call you for having a closed guard.
Who the **** tells people this?
And that's when I figured out that tears couldn't make somebody who was dead alive again. There's another thing to learn about tears, they can't make somebody who doesn't love you any more love you again. It's the same with prayers. I wonder how much of their lives people waste crying and praying to God. If you ask me, the devil makes more sense than God does. I can at least see why people would want him around. It's good to have somebody to blame for the bad stuff they do. Maybe God's there because people get scared of all the bad stuff they do. They figure that God and the Devil are always playing this game of tug-of-war game with them. And they never know which side they're gonna wind up on. I guess that tug-of-war idea explains how sometimes, even when people try to do something good, it still turns out bad.
